I went to Smithville last summer in 2023 to visit Lucien and Dennis, since I now live in Niagara Region and it wasn't too far away. A reason for going was to give them a bunch of foreign coins. Lucien had reached out to me since he knew of my connection to Argentina. I said, "I'll see what I can dig up after I find the jar of them somewhere". I did, and brought them a whole bunch of coins from many countries that I had collected over the decades. I also went to see them both of course as I had never been to Smithville before. It had also been years since we were at a THBS bowling event together. They took me out for a pizza lunch since the diner down the street - which was where we were to go - was closed as it was a Monday. Oops, but the pizza was great! The ever hospitable Dynamic Duo of Dennis & Lucien greeted me with two bottles of wine from the Niagara Region. In knowing I have an elephant collection, a beautiful glass carving of one, done by a friend of theirs, was mailed to me much to my surprise. In seeing most of what I call the Coke Museum in the photo, I was sure to include Lucien in it. Rest in peace my friend. You will truly be missed by many.
I met Lucien and Dennis when they decided to buy a home in Smithville, I thought they were out of their minds, leaving Toronto and the wonderful life of culture they had there as I was representing them in real estate. I would not cash their check for a month because I thought for sure they would change their minds. There are so many of us in this town that are so glad that they did not change their minds and made Smithville home. Lucien enriched our lives to a huge extent. He showed us how to be a truly good person and to give back to your community. There are not words to express how I will feel about missing this very special man.
