Obituary of John Archibald

 

Archibald, John: It is with great sadness to have to say goodbye to our husband, Father, Papa and Best Friend, John Archibald. John passed on February 16th, at home with his family after a lengthy illness at the age of 83. Beloved husband/companion of Grace Terryberry, Cherished father of Robert  (Maggie), Carol Hendricks (Scott), and Linda Archibald. Step-Father to Tonya Terryberry (Dennis), Jamie Terryberry (Darlene). Proud grandfather of Christopher Hendricks (Pam), Amber Hendricks, Andrew Archibald, Robert Laroche, Adalyn Kwan (Andy), Danielle Terryberry and Justine Terryberry. Son of the late Grace Barbacki and Alfred Archibald.  Brother to Andrew Barbacki (Sharon) and Vanda Barbacki. John is predeceased by his sisters Irene and Joan. John was Papa to 6 great grandchildren, Emily, Meadow, Ronin, Anakin, Emma, Liam, Marley and Zayden. John was born in Tillicoultry Scotland January 4^th 1936 and came to Canada in 1949. He served in the Canadian Navy for 5 years 1953-1958 as a leading Seaman on the H.M.C.S. Resolute. He worked for Stelco Steel for 32 years, retiring in 1993. There was nothing John couldn’t do or fix, he was the original MacGyver.  John and Grace spent 40 years together travelling the globe. He was the best Dad and Papa in the whole world and will be deeply missed by all. A Celebration of life will be held Sunday, March 10, 2019 from 2:00 – 5:00 P.M. at Smithville Legion Br. #393, 172 St. Catharines St, Smithville. In keeping with John’s wishes he will be laid to rest in his beloved birth place of Tillicoultry Scotland. If desired, memorial donations to The Lung Association can be made through Merritt Funeral Home (905) 957-7031 or merritt-fh.com
