Dear Feenstra family,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you celebrate the life of your dear dad and opa. We know you find strength in the promises our Lord gives us and we pray he will continue to uphold you as you share memories and stories and grieve together. I will always remember the delight on his face whenever we stopped by to visit from a young age to when we visited Smithville several years ago. He was a kind, gentle, and faithful man.

Beste tante Janny en familie,

Ik wil u en al uw kinderen condoleren met het verlies van oom Hidde. Het voelt verdrietig als ik me realiseer hoe na zoveel blijde en droevige jaren uw man en jullie vader er nu niet meer is. Hij is nu bij de Here, en samen met zijn geliefde zonen.

Het heeft me geraakt dat in jullie gezin in de afgelopen jaren zoveel verlies is geweest en ik bid jullie veel kracht toe.

Oom Hidde heeft altijd een bijzondere plek in mijn herinneringen. Hij was de sterke oom uit Canada, die het zo goed kon vinden met mijn moeder en die naast zijn krachtige kant ook een heel kwetsbare liet zien. Ook al heb ik haar nooit gekend, het komt mij voor dat oom Hidde veel overeenkomsten had met oma Tetsje Feenstra, stevig en vriendelijk, met een groot hart.

Ik ben er trots op dat deze oom Hidde in mijn stamboom staat, heel trots. En ik ben dankbaar voor zijn leven, ook al zagen wij door de afstand er maar een klein deel van.

A man of great integrity and a strong love for his Saviour and His church. I will fondly remember the conversations and visits and we pray that the LORD will comfort you all during this time. Dear Janny and family: we want to offer our sincere condolences to you with the passing of Hidde. We are in Florida right now and not able to come. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. One of the early immigrants who saw and experienced a lot. A lot of sorrow especially with the loss of three sons. It was always nice to talk to him. He had a real love and interest in people and understood how you felt. I experienced that personally with the loss of our boys. Much strength to you especially Janny, as you carry on without him. He won't be planting your flowers anymore. Oh how we miss our loved ones. The Lord has been with you all these years, and we know He cares for us. Our loved ones are with the Lord eternally happy. The message reached me yesterday and touched me deeply. My sincere condolences and my prayers are that you will find comfort and deep peace in the Lord.

Oom Hidde was a great man who I greatly admired. One of my fondest memories was that him and tante Janny surprised us with an unannounced appearance on our wedding day in the Netherlands, back in 1987. I also loved his special way of telling stories. But, most of all he was a man of God and a great example for all of us.

He surely will be greatly missed!

I wish you strength the coming days and also the days thereafter.
