ZUMSTEIN, HERBERT JOHN: Passed away peacefully at Albright Manor, Beamsville on April 27, 2014 in his 89th year. John was the beloved brother of Ellenor Black (Harley, deceased) of Wellandport, a long time friend of Jean Egerter, uncle of Douglas (Agnes) Black, Brian Black, Vivian Black and great-uncle of Sarah Black Berlaud (Mathieu) of Poitiers, France. Predeceased by a sister Vivian Mary Zumstein. Born in Caistor Township where he farmed all his life, he was the son of Jason Stanley Zumstein and Katharine Ellen Rusk. John was an adherent of Bismarck United Church and a member of West Lincoln Historical Society, contributing papers on family history to their archives. He had a keen interest in radio, and was a very early Ham Radio operator. He was a generous and caring person. Visitation will be at Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Wednesday, April 30 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, May 1 at 11 am with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Following John's wishes, cremation has been chosen, with inurnment in the family plot at Winslow Cemetery at a later date. If desired, memorial donations to Bismarck United Church would be appreciated and can be made through the funeral home.
