BRUINSMA, MARTEN HARMEN: It is with profound sadness that the family of Marten Harmen Bruinsma of Smithville announce his passing on Monday, December 1, 2008. Beloved husband and partner of Atsje Bruinsma (nee De Leeuw) for 35 years. Loving Hait of Anja and Chris Lipiec, Tineke and Jeff Leech, Harmen and Sam Bruinsma, and Pamela and Christopher Hendricks. Cherished Pake of Gerrit, Kenton, Hannah, Olivia and Ronin. Marten will also be missed by best friends Ron and Nancy Van den Berg, and Kees and Nieske Poepjes in Holland. He had many friends, touched many lives and will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered. Also survived by his family in Canada and Holland. Predeceased by his parents Harmen and Trijntje Bruinsma (nee Schilstra) and Atsje's parents. Friends may call at the Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Friday from 5-8 pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 6 at 11 am at Smithville United Church, 116 West Street (Regional Road 20). Private interment prior to the service. If desired, memorial contributions to the Smithville United Church Lift Fund would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the funeral home.
