WITTEVEEN, JOHN: Suddenly at his home on April 11, 2010, Johan Christiaan Witteveen, in his 78th year. Predeceased by his wife Willemtje (Wilma) Witteveen and infant daughter Maryann. Survived by two daughters Dianna and her husband Dave Pare, and Linda and her husband Ed Urbshas. Loving Opa of Jordan, Danika and Josh Pare; Stephany and Rachel Urbshas. He will also be sadly missed by his special friend Valentina, and his extended family in Holland. Born July 9, 1932 in Ouderyn (Utrecht), John came to Canada from The Netherlands in 1950 and has been farming in Caistor Centre and farm drainage since 1968. He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, travelling, Susie the monkey and the barrel organ. Member of Lincoln Lodge #544 and the Scottish Rite. Dear friend of Don Phillips, and the Lillycrop, Hawkes, Baronaites and Smith families, along with many other neighbours and friends. Special thanks to all the Emergency Services for their prompt response. Friends may call at the Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Tuesday, April 13 from 7-9 and Wednesday, April 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at Merritts United Church on Thursday, April 15 at 11 am with interment at the church’s adjoining cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions to Merritts United Church would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the funeral home.
