CURRIE, Wallace Alexander

With sadness we announce the passing of Wallace (Wally) Alexander Currie on September 2, 2023, in his 84th year. Beloved husband to Ellen Currie for 60 years. Extraordinary father to his daughters Donna (Shawn) and Danielle (Michael). Proud Papa to his grandchildren Melissa (Chris), Michael, Brandon, Hannah, and Keira. His memory lives on in his great grandchildren Harper, Ella, and Dallas. Wallace was predeceased by his parents Daniel and Mary Currie, son Wayne, and by siblings Josie (John), Bernie, brother-in-law John, and sister-in-law Diane. He will be greatly missed by his sister Anne and sister-in-law Joann. He will be loved and missed by many other extended family and friends.

Wallace was born in New Waterford, Nova Scotia on October 23rd, 1939.  After school, he spent time in the Canadian Armed Forces alongside his brother Bernie.  Wally worked at Dofasco for 32 years, while at the same time balancing his small chicken farm in Smithville for much of that time.  Wally was an avid sports fan and loved watching tennis and his favourite sports teams the Leafs, Blue Jays and Tiger-Cats.  He really enjoyed conversations and laughs, talking on the phone, reminiscing about fun times and telling stories from his youth.  Wally, or Al as he was known to many, was always there to help and loved working on any projects inside or outside the house.  He particularly loved his time working at the fish market, where he picked up a part-time job in retirement as it reminded him of “home”.

Wallace will always be remembered for the many years he spent volunteering for the Grimsby Skating Club and in later years, Skate Canada (Western Ontario Section) in which he was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2017 recognizing his significant contribution to the sport.

Thank you to the Dr Sjaarda, Dr. Fernandes and the excellent staff at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital for their outstanding care and compassion.

Arrangements to be entrusted to Merritt Funeral Home, Smithville. As per Wallace’s wishes, a private family service will take place.   A Celebration of Life will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations to West Lincoln Memorial Hospital would be appreciated by the family and if desired can be made through the funeral home, (905) 957-7031.
