TODD, JOHN

John Todd went peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Saviour, at the age of 90, on August 26th, 2023 at the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital. Beloved husband of 60 years to Janice Todd (Hysert) and beloved father to Karen (Paul) and Mary Ann (Dale). Cherished grandpa to Jessica (John), Emily (Michael), Jennifer (Stephen), Wesley (Stephanie), Jared, Hannah, and Haley. John was a great grandpa to 11 great grandchildren. 

He was born on April 19th, 1933 in Belfast, Ireland to his late parents John and Eva Todd. He is survived by his sister Eva (Jim) and sister-in-law Shirley. Predeceased by his brother, Robert Todd and infant great granddaughter Sydney Jane. 

On his 20th Birthday, along with his brother Robert, they departed from Ireland and came to Canada by ship. They came to Canada to work as carpenters. Just recently he received his 70-year membership in the Local 18 Carpenters Union.

In his retirement years, he continued to use his carpentry skills, offering advice and help to family and friends with various projects in their homes. He Built the home that he and his wife raised their daughters in and have resided in for the past 58 years. He also enjoyed the hobby fruit farm that they planted in the late60’s and continued to work in his orchard right up until his 90th birthday!

He will be remembered for his smile, the twinkle in his eye, his wit, his strong work ethic, family values, and his faith in the Lord Jesus. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those that knew him.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Merritt Funeral Home, Smithville. A private family burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Stoney Creek. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 11:00a.m. at Winona Gospel Church, 218 Glover Road, Stoney Creek. Donations to Christian Salvage Mission or Winona Gospel Church would be appreciated by the family and if desired can be made through the funeral home, (905)957-7031
