Obituary of John Deboer

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

The Lord called unto Himself our dearly loved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather on December 3, 2019. Born June 15, 1930 in Haulerwijk, Friesland, The Netherlands. John immigrated to Canada at age 18 and moved to West Lincoln a year later. Married to Johanna Koopman in 1958, the Lord blessed them with six children. In 1964 the family settled on a small farm in Caistor Centre and John built a flourishing cattle dealing business. Faithful member of the Canadian Reformed Church all his life, first in Smithville and then Grassie, John put the Lord God first in his life, followed by his family and friends. He has gone before us into glory but we are comforted by the promise of our God that we will see him again should we be faithful as he was. He will be greatly missed by his wife Johanna (Koopman) Deboer, his children and their families, James and Simone Deboer (Justin & Anne, Scott & Arynn, David & Tamara, Rachel & Jonathan Vergunst, Colin(Sarah Vellenga) Lucas Boone), Joyce and Fred Bosscher (Darryl & Emily, Brian, Michael, Greg & Rachel, Thomas & Rebecca, Kevin & Jacqueline), Lorraine and Maurice VanSpronsen (Andrew & Kaitlin, Alisha & Tyler Blokker, Daniel+, Jonathan, Jordan & Leah, Luke (Christina Smid), Lorissa), Nancy and David Elgersma (Randy & Sarah, Blake & Samantha, Leah & Steven VanHengstum, Kara (Henry Oosterhof), Frank and Sandra Deboer (Joshua, Cailyn (Lee Vanderveen), Evan), Debra and Jason Bouwman (Josina (Kevin Wattel), Jamie, Jackson, Jewel) and 33 great grandchildren. John will also be missed by his many brothers, sisters and their spouses. Visitation at Grassie Canadian Reformed Church, 480 Woolverton Road, Grimsby on Friday, December 6, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Church on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Private interment at Union Cemetery will precede the funeral service. Memorial donations to Guido de Bres Christian high school would be appreciated by the family and if desired can be made through the funeral home.
