Obituary of Andy Eichstaetter

Please share a memory of Andy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Peacefully, at home in Caistor Centre, Surrounded by the love of his family, Andy passed away with dignity after a 2-year battle with lung Cancer. Survived by his loving wife, Barbara (nee Saunders) after 52 years of marriage. Loved and loving Dad to Karen (Grant) Holle and Kelly (Shawn) Lymburner. Loved and very doting Opa to Zachary, Jacob, Katharine, Seth, Owen and Ava. Loved uncle to Hannelore (Ken) Corkill, Maria (Daniel) Pezzetta, and Fred (Allison) Stoeckner and their families. Also leaving behind brother Reinhold, Sisters Maria, Elfriede, and Hedwig, and their families, and other relatives and friends in Germany. Andy Immigrated to Canada as a free spirted 18-year-old in 1960, Settling in Hamilton. He made friends easily and quickly adapted to his new country but did not actually become a citizen until 2012 a very proud moment for him! He was employed by Firestone Canada until the plant closure, then after purchasing our country property, he evolved into a genuine “land steward” by planting trees, harvesting trees, cutting firewood, and processing logs into boards with his sawmill. He built a shop and was a talented wood-worker. He was happiest with a piece of wood in his hands! He loved to “live off the land” and always had a huge vegetable garden to show for it! He was an avid golfer and skier and so enjoyed those times with family and friends. Watching CFL and NFL football was a fond past-time, as was enthusiastically supporting his grandkids’ sports activities.  A heartfelt thanks are extended to Dr. R. Juergens and her team at JCC for giving us some extra time with Andy. Thanks also to our LHIN and Paramed nurses for their exceptional care. Visitation will take place at The Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Thursday, July 4th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A funeral service will take place at Smithville United Church, Smithville on Friday July 5th at 11am. A private family inurnment to follow at a later time.  If desired, memorial donations to Juravinski Cancer Centre Foundation or McNally House Hospice would be appreciated by the family and can be made through Merritt Funeral Home

While saddened by your passing, we are relieved that your struggle is now over.
