DeBOER, JOHN: The Lord took unto Himself our dear husband, father, grandfather and Opa, John DeBoer of Smithville on Sunday, December 16, 2007, in his 82nd year. Beloved husband of Alice (nee Elzinga). Loving father of George and Betty DeBoer, Louise and John Jakos, Correen and Wally Kloostra, Richard and Elsje DeBoer, Joyce and Arnie Riewald, Fran and Frank Zwaagstra, and John and Heather DeBoer. Cherished by his 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Alice Vis (in Canada) and Frouk and Ge of the Netherlands. Predeceased by his sister Dinie in the Netherlands. Friends may call at the Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street in Smithville on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 20 at 11 am at Grace Reformed Church, 514 George Street in Dunnville. Private interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens will precede the service. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and caregivers who made dad's final days more comfortable. If desired, memorial contributions to Shalom Manor or Dunnville Right to Life would be appreciated and can be made through the funeral home.
