BUIST, JAMES: At Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, James Buist of Burlington passed away in his 102nd year. James was the beloved husband of Ruth and predeceased by his first wife Elma (1977). He will be missed by his children Pamela Buist and Leslie Ashford; stepchildren David (Nancy) Grieve and Nancy Danton (the late John); and siblings Bert (Ruth), Margaret Hutton (and the late Lorne), Alexander (Mary), and Ronald (Myrna). Predeceased by brothers Ken (Rose), William (Marion), and sisters Agnes McWhirter (Dave), Bessie and Ina Mattina (Bill). He will be fondly remembered by his step grandchildren Chad Ashford, Aaron and Rachel Danton, and Daniel, Michael and Andrew Grieve, and great grandchildren Chloe, Anthony, David James and Everett. James was a WWII veteran with the Royal Canadian Air Force, Radar Division for five years. He was a telegraph operator with the Canadian Pacific Railway for 25 years. James was an honoured member of the Grand Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons. He was a 66 year member of St. Andrew's Lodge and a member of the Hiram Chapter Royal Arch Masons No2 GRC. He was also an avid bridge player. Special thanks to the nurses and staff of Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, 4 East for their care and compassion. Visitation at Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Thursday, June 27 beginning at 10 am where the funeral service will follow at 11 am. Interment Woodland Cemetery, Hamilton will follow the reception. If desired, donations to the Salvation Army or War Amps can be made through the funeral home.
