Obituary of Gerry Ridder
Please share a memory of Gerry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
RIDDER, GERRY: At McNally House, Grimsby on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, The Lord called home our father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend, Gerry Ridder in his 57th year. Gerry lost his short but well-fought battle with lung cancer and has gone to join his wife Carolyn (2010) in the room God had prepared for them. Loving father of Caryn & Keith Tilstra, Paul Ridder, Jennifer Ridder, and Rachel Ridder & Benjamin Pyett, and doting grandpa to Emerson Joy Tilstra, we will cherish the memories always. Gerry will also be deeply missed by his mother Dorothy Ridder, and his siblings Betty and George Eggink, Margaret Mercer, Geraldine Evers, and Andy Ridder and their families, and close friends Clarence & Joanne VanderHout and Martin & Jeanette Buursma. To the end, Gerry kept his generous, kind, and compassionate spirit and his quirky sense of humour. He gave much time and effort working for Scott & Pat McNeil at Contour Transport Inc., and loved every minute of it. Special thanks to Dr. Peter Ellis and Sally at the Juravinski Cancer Clinic, Mary Catharine and the Palliative Team, and to all the wonderful staff and volunteers at McNally House, who cared for Carolyn and Gerry during their fights with cancer. You carried our family through many difficult moments and we will not forget you. We may have lost these battles, but we will continue to fight in the war. Friends may call at the Smithville Christian Reformed Church (6522 Smithville Rd.) on Friday, September 7 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Interment at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 8 at Lane Cemetery, St. Anns followed by the memorial service at the Smithville Christian Reformed Church beginning at 11 a.m. If desired, memorial contributions to the Juravinski CIBC Breast Assessment Centre or McNally House would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the funeral home.
