VIS, ROELOF: After a brief illness, our husband, father and pake Roelof Vis of Smithville was called Home to the Lord on Sunday, November 20, 2011, in his 87th year. Beloved husband of Femmie (nee Busstra). Loving father of Tjamme and Gerda, Willy and George, Berend and Joan, Margriet, Alida and Ruben, Wolter and Veronica, Wendy and Wayne, Mieke and Arno, and Tjerk. Cherished by his 31 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by family and friends in Canada and The Netherlands. Roelof was awarded the Resistance Remembrance Cross for his heroic efforts during World War II by the Yad Vashem, with the title "Righteous Among the Nations", the highest title given to a non-Jewish person. Friends may call at Smithville Canadian Reformed Church (330 Station Street) on Thursday, November 24 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Church on Friday, November 25 at 11 am. Interment Union Cemetery, Smithville will preceed the service.
