SCHILSTRA, DIEDERT: Peacefully, at his home in Smithville on Sunday, May 13, 2007, Diedert Schilstra was called Home to be with his Lord and Saviour, in his 81st year. Beloved husband of Hiltje Schilstra (nee Sjaarda) for 51 years. Loving father of Harold and Barb of St. Anns, Wilfred and Ingrid of Smithville, Christine and Jack Rintjema of Smithville, Jeffrey and Grace of Smithville, Wendy and Rey Van der Vliet of Osgoode, Wayne and Christine of St. Anns, and Michael and Carolyn of St. Catharines. Cherished by his 28 grandchildren. Dear brother of Jack and Tina of Dunnville, Trudy and Ed Struyk of Listowel, brother-in-law of Jetse Tiersma and his wife Jeltsje of Dunnville, and brother-in-law of Con Struyk of Troy. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sisters Tryntje Bruinsma and her husband Harmen, and Grietje Tiersma, and Janice Struyk. Friends and family may call at the Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Smithville Christian Reformed Church (6522 Smithville Road) on Wednesday, May 16 at 2:30pm. A private family interment will be held prior to the service at Lane Cemetery, St. Anns. If desired, memorial contributions to the Diabetes Association or the Foundation for Niagara Christian Schools would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the funeral home.
