Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
TROTT, CHARLES: Charles Henry Trott was born in Bristol England on March 29, 1920 and passed away on October 23, 2009 at McNally House in Grimsby in his ninetieth year. Beloved father of daughter Susan and her husband Ross Smith. Grampy to Douglas Smith and his wife Jennifer, granddaughter Susanne Perry and her husband Mike and great grandchildren Kamryn and Lukas Perry, all of Smithville. Also, a favorite uncle to his nephew Martin Morgan and wife Pam in England. Charles emigrated to Canada with his family from England in 1951. He left the Bristol Aircraft Company after being recruited by AV Roe in Malton. During his years with AV Roe he had the opportunity to work on the Iroquois engines designed for the Avro Arrow. After the demise of the Arrow, he planned to go on to California with many of his co-workers. However, he chose to stay in Canada to invest and work on the Avian Gyroplane which was an inovative prototype designed for short travel purposes. In 1973 Charles started his own very successful machine shop business in Georgetown where he problem-solved for many companies across Ontario including the Comstock Racing Team and Ward Air Airlines. His motto of "make do and mend" endeared him to many desperate customers. Charles lived for over forty years in Georgetown until the death of his wife, Olive, who passed away in 1999. They had been married 56 years. During his years in Georgetown, he volunteered for many town duties such as driving the volunteer ambulance and taking photos for The Georgetown Herald. He had been a member of the Masonic Lodge for over fifty years. Charles moved to the Caistor area in 1999 and became an active Grampy to many young people. At this time he re-established ties with his relatives still in England and their families. He spent many happy holidays with them. Most recently he had resided at Lincoln Park Retirement Suites in Grimsby where the staff created a wonderful home and Charles made many new friends. The kindness and care of the staff at Lincoln Park has been greatly appreciated by the family. The family would like to thank Dr. Martha Davidson, Dr. Rebecca Stacpoole and Leah of the Smithville Family Medical Centre, Dr. Trus of the Juravinski Centre, and Dr. Rhydderch of the Hamilton General Hospital Pain Management Centre. So many people have helped Charles over the past years. Special thanks to Judy from Rose Cottage who became Charles's friend and a wonderful support to the family. Also thanks to Fred Merritt who spent many hours sharing history with Charles. Thank you also to the Emergency Department and Ward C staff at the West Lincoln Hospital and Tom Merritt from Merritt Funeral Home. A special thank you to Dr. Marshall, Mary Catharine, Janine and the staff at McNally House. We are so blessed to have you in our community. Donations to McNally House and Rose Cottage would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the Merritt Funeral Home. At Charles's request, there will be no funeral. Cremation has taken place. Good Night Dad and God Bless.
