LAIDMAN, Elford Edison: On Sunday, April 5, 2009, Elford passed away peacefully in his 91st year. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Ena (nee Senn) of 56 years; his daughter Linda and Peter Jordan; son Lyle and Paulette; daughter Debra and Bob Clayson;  grandchildren Vanessa and Sean Myers, Brenda and Michael van Hemmen and Angela Clayson, Mark Laidman and great-grandsons Bradley and Colin Myers. He will also be missed by sister Donna Thomson, brother-in-law Leonard Senn, sisters-in-law Jessie & Jean Senn, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Predeceased by sisters Ruby and Muriel. He lived in the Caistor / Smithville area all of his life, farming in Caistor, then building a home on the site where both he and his wife attended school, retiring to the Legion Villa in Smithville, then later moving to Albright Manor in Beamsville. He loved music, and performed in a band for many years. Travel was a big part of his life, having visited every province and state during his lifetime. He will be remembered for his story-telling, his silly songs, his love of people, his hearty laugh, his love of family history, visiting family and friends while he was able, and his love of music and travel. The family will receive friends at the Merritt Funeral Home, Smithville on Tuesday, April 7 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral service from Calvary Gospel Church, Beamsville on Wednesday, April 8 at  10 a.m. Interment at Abingdon Presbyterian Cemetery, followed by lunch at the church. Donations gratefully accepted to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Canadian Cancer Society, and can be made through the funeral home.
