KELLY, HOWARD: Born in Seneca Township on March 8, 1920, Howard John Kelly passed away peacefully at Kilean Lodge in Grimsby on Monday, June 15, 2009 in his 90th year. Beloved husband of Donna Kelly (nee Porter) for 60 years. Loving father of Elaine Kelly. Dear brother of Rosetta Swayze, and sadly missed by his nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sons Keith and Rae, infant son Allan and infant daughter Dianne, brothers Clarence, Abbie, Victor, and Aden, and sisters Edna, Gladys, Beatrice and Catherine. Howard was a loving father, husband, generous friend and neighbour, always offering a hand and many words of advice. He was a member of IOOF St. Catharines and Odd Fellows Lodge Wellandport, National Campers and Hikers Association, Antique Classic Car Club of Canada, Old Tyme Fiddlers, and Pelham Community Church. Howard worked for the Region of Niagara for 33 years, retiring in 1985. Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. E. Blake, Dr. Smith, and Kilean Lodge nursing staff for their wonderful care and devotion which enlightened his each and every day while he was a patient for over five months. Friends may call at the Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 18 at 10 am at the funeral home. Interment East Seneca United Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions to Haldimand War Memorial Hospital (Dunnville) or Kilean Lodge would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the funeral home.
