Edwards, William A. "Buck": On Monday August 3rd, 2009 after a long stay in hospital, passed away at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in his 88th year. Predeceased by wife Muriel (2001). Beloved father of Bill (Karen) of Stoney Creek, Bob (Rita) of Hamilton, Rick (Dorothy) of St. Catharines, Carol Taylor (Brian) of Welland, and Jim (Kate) of Stoney Creek. Loving grandfather of Jeff (Kim), Stephen (Dana Noiles), David (Jaime) Taylor; Greg (Marlena Pearson) and Dan Edwards; Sarah, Nathan, Matthew Edwards. Great-grandfather of Jacob, Simon, Melanie and Evan Taylor. Predeceased by sister Lloyda Patricia. Survived by brothers-in-law George Claydon, Harley Smith, and Roy Swick; sisters-in-law Marion Smith (nee Swick) and Molly Swick (nee Hague). Buck volunteered with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, Hamilton and served in WW2 in France, Holland, Belgium, and Germany. After the war, he became a local businessman and president of W. A. Edwards Auctioneering Ltd. for over 30 years. He was very active in his community, serving a term in local government, in the volunteer fire department, Canadian Legion Branch 393, Social Services, and was a member Smithville United Church and Coronation Lodge No. 502, Smithville. Friends may call at the Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Thursday, August 6 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at Smithville United Church on Friday, August 7 at 11 am. Interment Smithville United Church Cemetery. The family would appreciate any memorial donations to the Legion Villa in Smithville or the Legion Branch 393 Poppy Fund or the charity of your choice and can be made through the funeral home.
