Peacefully with her family by her side, at McMaster University Medical Centre, on January 10, 2009, in her 78th year. Beloved companion of Ivan Carruthers, predeceased by husband F/L Jack Ecker (1956). Survived by sons Michael and his wife Debbie, Stephen and his wife Mary Lynne. Cherished grandchildren Matthew and Laura; Alyson and Jeremy, Jack and Brienne, and Emily Jean. Also great granddaughter Vera Jean and great grandson Samuel Jack. Also much loved by step-children Kim & Lyle Pietracupa, Bev & Brent Packham, Greg & Cindy Carruthers; and grandchildren Lisa, Teresa, Shawn and Lisa, and Lee Ann; Rebecca and Taylor; Alanna, Samantha and Jake. Predeceased by brothers Alex and Howard Shepherd, brothers-in-law Joe Kilpatrick, Bob Dobson, Arnold Daw. Survived by sister Barb Kilpatrick; brother and sister-in-law Gord and Joy Ecker, and sisters-in-law Jane Shepherd, Velma Shepherd, Alice Dobson, and Ruth Daw. Jean was a long time employee of General Refractories Company, Smithville, where she reached the level Secretary/Treasurer, and Director. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at St. Luke's Anglican Church, 216 Station Street, Smithville, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2009, followed by private family interment. If desired, donations to St. Lukes Anglican Church, Smithville or McNally House, Grimsby would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the funeral home.
