Obituary of George Travis

With heavy hearts the family announces the passing of George Travis peacefully at home in Caistor Centre, on January 4, 2024 in his 75th year. George will be missed by his wife of 54 years Carolyn (nee. Silverthorne). He will be remembered by his sons Mike (Cecilia) and Jamie (Leanne). George’s memory will live on in the hearts of his grandchildren Tyler (Huma), Zachary (Taylor), Nathan (Sadie), and Sarah. He is survived by his siblings Marge (d. Bob), Helen, Clifford (Penny), Judy (d. Norm), Stan (Liz), Cheryl (Bob), and Charlie. The family would like to extend a thank you to Dr. Matt and Dr. Wright for the compassion they have shown. Predeceased by his parents Nelson and Treva (nee. Jacobs). George will be loved and missed by many other extended family, friends, and car guys. He was a Stelco employee for 30 years and retired in 1997. Visitation  to take place at Merritt Funeral Home, Smithville on Monday, January 8, from 2:00-4:00 P.M. and 6:00-8:00 P.M. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 9, at 11:00 A.M. with burial to follow at Merritt Settlement Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations to Scleroderma Canada or a charity of your choice would be appreciated and can be made through the funeral home.
