Obituary of Gary Valentin Glaser

Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with broken hearts, that the family of Gary Valentin Glaser, announce his sudden passing on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

Gary in his 65th year, is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, of 27 years.

The absolute joy of Papa’s life was Rebecca Ann Marilyn Ward. Papa was so thankful for his beautiful sweetheart. Papa and Rebecca shared so many treasured rituals. Hopefully the memories that they created will last Rebecca a lifetime.

While Gary had no biological children of his own, he was blessed with the love and kindness of his honorary son, Darren Ward, honorary daughter-in-law Hannah Layton-Uzelac, and honorary grandson, Frederick Ward. Gary, Darren and Hannah would try to outdo each other with dad jokes.

From a very young age Gary shared his love of country living with his niece, Serena Bourns. Serena and her husband Colin and their children Evan and Claire have been a constant in his life.

Gary was blessed with a special relationship with his niece Danielle and her husband Frank Martinello. Frank and Gary shared an ability to banter, with a genuine affection and respect for each other. Nugget is in good care.

Brother-in-law, David Daniels and niece, Rhylea Daniels, brought an entirely new dynamic to Gary’s life. There were many days filled with playing games and enjoying Rhylea’s baking. Gary had never seen anyone enjoy the pond quite as much as Rhylea and her friends did.

Gary was thankful for his “Energizer Bunny” sister-in-law, Sharon Van Soelen. Never afraid to pitch in wherever needed. Whether it was assistance with the animals, in the garage, in the kitchen, in the garden, at the trailer or dead rodent removal.

Gary will be remembered and greatly missed by many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. All of which he could not wait to share the experience of haying with.

For more than 40 years, Gary was a dedicated Civil Servant of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

He enjoyed Civil War reenacting with his horse Breton and friend, Tom Poustie for over 20 years.

Gary could always count on his neighbours; Paul and Maureen Mosher, Teena James and Chris Longhurt, and Peggy Belanger Park and the late Steve Park. Gary always made it clear to Steve that his house was too close to the property line.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Merritt Funeral Home, Smithville. Friends and family are invited to gather together at Gary’s beloved hobby farm, 3400 Westbrook Road, Binbrook on Saturday, November 25, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. His dog, Charlie, will be in attendance. If desired, memorial donations to Whispering Hearts Horse Rescue would be appreciated and can be made through the funeral home.
