Obituary of Marilyn Pearle Copeland

We are saddened to announce the death of our beloved mother,  Marilyn Copeland. She is survived by her sons: Brian (Sandra) and John (Sarah) and by her grandchildren: Mitchell and Rebecca, Erin and Lesley and by her sister-in-law, Rhea Springsted. Born on the farm in Caistor Township on November 16, 1933, she attended a one room school house, S.S.#5, and then Smithville High School. She married Willis Copeland in November of 1951 at Ker Church. They were not only partners in life but partners in the Fulton Feed Mill for forty years. Marilyn was a huge Hamilton Tiger Cat fan She golfed for many years at Dunnville Golf and Country Club, was a fine bowler and in her later years watched sports regularly especially golf and curling. Every morning she read the Hamilton Spectator and in the evening watched CHCH news. She was a long time Treasurer of Smithville United Church and a member of its United Church Women’s group. She enjoyed travelling, spent many winters in Florida and loved her cottage on Lake Erie. Marilyn loved to entertain, she made the best salmon sandwiches, chocolate chip cookies, apple pie and potato salad. Her warm out going personality made Marilyn many friends in her community and wherever she went. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. A Visitation will take place at Smithville United Church, 116 West Street, on Saturday, November 18, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. Donations to Smithville United Church or the United Mennonite Home would be appreciated by the family and if desired can be made through the funeral home, (905)957-7031
