Condolences
I met Sunny when I was 5 or 6 years old, now 40 years later I cannot remember seeing her without her having a 10,000 watt smile for me... she was always a ray of sunshine. It saddens me that I'll never be able to have the happy gift of her smiling at me again. My condolences to the McCollum family, may your fondest memories come easiest.

We were so very sorry to hear of the passing of Sunny, especially when this sad news so closely followed the passing of Neil. Since first meeting with Sunny and Neil when Randy was in Grade 8, on to discovering their extreme generosity during the Blizzard of "77 when they came to the rescue of Gainsborough School staff members, including our own 2 pre-schoolers and the myriad of travellers who took refuge in the school, providing blankets and a great deal of food, our early impression of their generous, kind hearts and community spirit were confirmed over and over again throughout the years of knowing them. Sunny, with her kind heart and giving spirit, her creativity and enthusiasm will be missed by all who had the good fortune to have shared any life experiences with her. John and Cheryl

Our deepest Sympathy for all the family, Sunny was such a kind person loved her women's hockey we always had a good time when I played, lots of laughs and get togethers. I am not sure how many years she played but I celebrated 25 years with her and group awhile ago. She will be missed by many...Judy & Jim Tuck

We are saddened to learn that Sunny has passed away. We have fond memories of her and Neil in the Hardware Store. Heaven and Neil needed another Angel to watch over all their family.
So sorry to read of Sunny’s passing today. We were both involved in the early days of the WL Co-op nursery school, the Tuesday morning hockey games and the kids’ sports back in the day. Please accept my sincere condolences….your Mom was one of a kind.

An absolute beautiful soul. Loved and cherished by so many. Aunt Sunny always had a smile and big hug anytime we saw her. She lovingly made my wedding dress for me in 1975, which I still have tucked away. We were expecting our daughters Angelene and Janine at the same time. Aunt Sunny often commented on how much they looked alike when they were young, as she said “the Hunter traits”.
Reunited with her two beautiful daughters and the love of her life. Our deepest condolences to all of the family. May your wonderful memories of your Mom, Grandma, Aunt and friend live on in your hearts.

So sorry to hear of our coach Mrs. McCollum's passing. I played baseball with Laurie and Kim and Mrs. McCollum would drive us anywhere in Ontario. She was the first-base coach and Mrs. Leach was the third-base coach. Then one day she stopped wearing her baseball uniform for a stretchy pair of pants. She was pregnant with Janine. And then Neil and Mr. Beaudin coached our team. I remember them all with fondness.
She introduced me to McDonald's in grade 7 after a game in Woodstock.
She was a kind and giving person who loved it if you stopped in at the house—a landmark of Bismarck.
If there's a baseball game in Heaven, they got a helluva team!
So sorry to hear of Sonny's passing. I remember her as a no nonsense woman who wasn't afraid to try anything. She was a good friend to my mom Willa when they played hockey and soccer together. They coached girls hockey and ball together. The Bingo Queens come to mind thanks to Branch 393 of the Legion. Here is to a life well lived.
With respect and admiration.

Good afternoon all, just wanted to share my fondest memories with mum [Sunny]. It all started when I was just 8yrs old, taking an 8hr bus ride from the infamous NYC all the way to Ontario Canada. (And boy, did I ever dread that long bus ride.. Lol) As the bus finally approached its final destination in Smithville, I couldn't wait to finally get off, stretch my legs and meet my Fresh Air Mom. I remembered Sunny approaching me with a warm greeting, and with a heart felt hug. From that moment on, I knew I was safe and was going to enjoy myself for the next 2wks with the McCollum's. I remember riding in the far back of the station wagon, and stopping for some ice cream on the way home. We spoke of how my bus ride was, and was given the grand tour of Smithville all the way to Bismark. As the minutes turned into hours, then hours into days,I began to miss my mom back home. Not once did Mum make me feel bad about being homesick. She always reassured me that everything was going to be alright. For the next 6 years, I was faithfully committed to visiting Canada every summer and winter break. I will never forget that big ole smile, along with her warm hug that hot summer day...
I so wished I was able to be there with you all, but unfortunately, not being fully prepared in such short notice, kinda made it impossible to make it happen.
Mum, I thank you so very much for giving me an opportunity outside of my hometown in NYC. I thank you for opening your home to me, and showing me things I've never experienced before. I thank you for introducing me to your entire family, having them embrace me as their own family member as well. You are one of a kind, and will forever be loved, missed, and cherished.
Rest Peacefully Mum...
Your favorite New Yorker,
Chrissy
Our sincere condolences to the McCollum family. Sonny was a great lady. I have many fond memories of her. She was a great Sunday school teacher and opened her home doors to her Sunday school class on various occasions. She brought gifts when our kids were born and she looked forward to seeing them every year for Halloween! I remember her telling me that she watches for my Christmas lights to come on before she would turn on hers lol. She will be missed but I’m sure she is thrilled to be reunited with Neil!
