Obituary of Howard Jack Shepherd

SHEPHERD, HOWARD:  Peacefully at his home in Smithville on Thursday, August 21, 2008, Howard Jack Shepherd in his 86th year.  Beloved husband of 59 years to Velma (nee Bryan).  Loving father of Barbara Jean Fink of Keswick, and of Robert Jack Shepherd (Margaret) of Beamsville.  Cherished grandfather of Kelley Carasi (Peter), and Cortney Dunkling (Chris), and great-grandfather of Mackenzie, Gabriella and Sammy.  Dear brother of Barbara Kilpatrick of Hamilton and Jean Ecker (Ivan Carruthers) of Smithville.  Predeceased by his brother Alex Shepherd.  Veteran of WWII and member of the Black Watch.  Howard was a longtime employee of Comfort and Tylee, manager of the Smithville LCBO, and in his retirement was a valued employee of Carruthers' Printing and Merritt Funeral Home.  Howard will be missed by many friends and extended family.  Friends may call at the Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Friday, August 22 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.  The funeral service will be held at St. Luke's Anglican Church, 216 Station Street in Smithville on Saturday, August 23 at 1:30 pm.  Private interment at St. Luke's Anglican Church Cemetery prior to the service.  A very heartfelt thanks to Dr. Tom Suhadolc for whom Howard had so much admiration and respect, and also to the many dedicated health professionals at the Juravinski Cancer Centre and St. Elizabeth's Nursing.  If desired, memorial contributions to the Juravinski Cancer Centre or McNally House would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the funeral home.
