Condolences
Dear Debbie and Guy,
Please accept my heartfelt condolences at the loss of such an incredible young man. I had the privilege of working with Shane at Niagara Children's Centre. He touched a part of my heart and I will always cherish the memories I have. Shane was an amazing young man who lived life fully. Your family allowed him so many amazing opportunities which he couldn't wait to share with us when he came to school. I will continue to keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers .
In friendship always, please remember I am here if you need me.

We were so shocked and saddened by Shane’s passing. Our deepest condolences to you . Shane was a very lucky boy to have such great parents, who gave him so much love . It was always nice to bump into Shane and get a hug from him, and he would always say nick and my home , he always wanted to play video games with nick. Unfortunately we couldn’t make the funeral as we were out of town. Rest In Peace Shane.

I was truly saddened to hear of Shane's passing. Unfortunately,I only met him once but remember his infectious smile and zest. Emma, always remember how much your uncle Shane loved you and the pride he showed for you to everyone at your graduation. Keep making him proud and keep smiling as beautifully as he did. Love you to bits. Praying for all that you have some peace through this time of loss. Maggie (pretty nana)
I'm glad that I got to spend time with my cousin Shane this summer, and that my children got to know him. I asked Cassia (my 7 year old) if she had any memories of Shane, and right away her face brightened up with a smile, and she said "I really liked it when he drove us in his truck-thing! He drove us really fast around the windmill and through the woods!" Three year old Kynton chimed in to say with a big smile, "I was super scared!"
That happened this summer, when we stayed with Shane for Canada Day. It was great to see Shane walking again after his recent foot surgery, and he was excited to take us outside to show us around. Shane took Cassia and Kynton for a "fast" drive on his Kubota, since Kynton had been wanting to see the wind turbine up close. Shane took me for the same ride afterwards, and he took great joy in terrifying me by taking sharp turns and getting us lost in the woods.
Of course, I knew we didn't need to worry when Shane was driving. He knew every turn of those trails perfectly, and he knew exactly how fast and how sharply he could take those turns. When he drove us into a dead-end in the woods, he made a perfect two-point U-turn in such a small space that I was amazed - I couldn't have done it without bumping into trees. Shane's memory of roads was always surprising. I remember even when he was quite young, he would direct us on which turns to take when driving in New Brunswick, despite not having been on those roads in years. I wish my memory was that good!
Shane loved video games, particularly any involving driving. Over the years he progressed through the Mario Kart and Grand Theft Auto games, through various racing games, until he found American Truck Simulator. In this one, he could drive a realistic truck along highways based on real maps. He once showed me all the different trucks he could choose to drive, and I asked him why he always chose the same one - he looked at me like I was crazy, pointed to his favorite, and said "Dad's truck"! Shane also showed me how he had watched Youtube tutorials and learned how to install modifications to the game to get new maps: he was trying to get maps of the same highways that his Dad drove. He wanted to be able to drive his Dad's truck and follow along on the same highways, when Guy was away for work.
To be honest, Shane wasn't very good at the video games he played. He often crashed the cars he drove in the game, and I remember him driving his Mario Karts in the wrong direction when we played as kids. But he was persistent. He never gave up when he made a mistake, but just kept going until he figured out the problem and finished his race. I'm sure we could all learn something from that.
Shane helped me to look beyond a person's disabilities and to know the person. It's too easy to focus on what a person can't do, instead of on what they can. Shane tried his best to get where he wanted to go, and if he fell down while walking, he'd just get back up and keep going. He tried his best to communicate, and despite his difficulty in talking, he always helped us to understand what he wanted. Shane was always happy to be around his friends and family, and his excitement always brightened your day.
We'll miss you, Shane!
Dear Debbie, Guy, Deidre and Emma, unfortunately I can't be with you now, but please know that I'm thinking of you. I hope these memories bring a smile to your face, even if they also bring tears. Remember how special Shane was to all of us, and how he has made us all better people by knowing him.
Love,
Colin, Thuy, Cassia and Kynton

So sorry to hear of Shane's passing. He and I shared many laughs t the Children's Centre School. He had an awesome sense of humour and always enjoyed a good bet about hockey. I will always remember my years of working with Shane with great fondness.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. When I started working with the Scout group at the Niagara Children's Centre School, Shane was one of the first students I had the pleasure to meet and get to know. He was a wonderful young man, always eager to help, always upbeat. He was one of our bright lights and seeing him every week was a real delight. He certainly made our work as volunteers easy! I know you will treasure your memories.
So very sorry for your loss of Shane.
He always put a smile on my face!!!
It was my honor to teach him piano lessons.
In our thoughts and prayers.
