Obituary of Doris Ruth Ivy Bowman

Bowman: Doris Ruth Ivy (nee Edmonds) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth Bowman at McNally House Hospice on October 24, 2014. Born in England 1918, she arrived in Canada when she was four years old. Predeceased by her husband Roy Laverne Bowman, parents Ivy (nee Hartman) and Robert Edmonds, brothers Stanley and Leonard Edmonds (Winnie), sister Helen Croteau (Lionel), and sister-in-law Blanche Burton (Raymond). She will be sadly missed by her children: Shirley Pyatt (Dennis), Grimsby; Patricia Beurteaux, Marmora; Murray, St. Catharines; and Jeff (Lynn), Hamilton. Five grandchildren: Kathleen Pyatt, Grimsby; Judith Pyatt (George Zammit), Cayuga; David Beurteaux (Emilia), Fitzroy Crossing, Australia; Danielle Beurteaux, Brooklyn, New York; Marc Beurteaux (Hana Kukal), Marmora. One Great Grandchild: Elizabeth Beurteaux, Fitzroy Crossing, Australia. Survived by: sister Edyth Nickerson, Grimsby; nieces Deana LaSalle (Craig), Florida; Beth Wagner (James) Beamsville; nephews Robert Edmonds, St. Catharines; and Leslie Edmonds, St. Catharines. Ruth was an active member of the Grimsby community since 1939. She canvassed for the second West Lincoln Hospital, the Polio Mothers, the Heart and Cancer Societies, and the Red Cross beginning in the 1940’s. Ruth loved to sing and sang in the choirs, from junior to senior groups, for thirty years. Ruth attended St. Andrew’s Anglican Church and helped in the kitchen and served on the Parish Council. She also belonged to the Anglican Church Women and the Shawl Ministry Group. She was one of the original members of the Volunteer Committee of the Art Gallery of Grimsby. Special heartfelt thanks to Dr. B. Mullens, Dr. D. Marshall, the staff and volunteers of McNally House Hospice for their wonderful care and support. Thank you so very much to Rev. Max Woolaver and the St. Andrews Church community for their caring and support. Cremation at Merritt Funeral Home, Smithville - no visitation. Private family service and burial of remains St. Andrew’s Church Cemetery. Celebration of Life Service on Thursday November 13, 2014 at 2 p.m., St. Andrew’s Church. Reception at the Parish Hall after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to McNally House Hospice would be appreciated.
